“Watch carefully, the magic that occurs, when you give a person just enough comfort to be themselves.” — Atticus
Our bodies are made to move. Our movement is shaped by our inner desire to explore and the environment around us. Clothes are a part of that environment. Our clothes can allow us to move freely or restrict our movement. Clothes can be a part of us like a second skin, allowing us full potential of movement or they can tighten around us making us feel clumsy, limited, and awkward in our bodies. Babies and young children are especially affected by restrictive clothing. We are often unaware of the restrictions placed upon our movement by tight or ill-fitting clothing. We become accustomed to what is normal. Our bodies are shaped by the forces acting upon it, and clothing is a constant force over many years that can inhibit freedom of movement and create tension.
Ill-fitting clothes also don’t feel good and can make our bodies feel wrong, further reducing our freedom to move. I started sewing my own clothes at the beginning of the pandemic. My motivation was to wear clothes made from natural fibers that fit me properly and allowed for freedom of movement. I slowly began to make my own clothes and clothes for my kids and family as well.
Made to Move Studio clothing is made slowly with lots of love: made to make you free.
In alignment with my values to produce as little waste as possible, I am using scraps and thrifted fabric. All of my clothing is made to move, allowing children to explore their world fully, play hard and experience joy in their bodies.
